For general life in Longyearbyen, Visit Svalbard. Accommodation and restaurants are well-listed. A useful map of where polar bear protection is not required can also be found.
Svalbardbutikken – one stop store for all grocery and supply needs in Longyearbyen: – Man-Fre 10-19, Lørdag 10-16, Søndag 15-18. Those arriving Sunday afternoon will be able to get any groceries for the following morning / days.

Travel
Flights to Longyearbyen (LYR) are available from Oslo Gardermoen (OSL) and Tromsø Langnes (TOS). The majority of international flights for those travelling from outside of Norway are directed through Oslo Gardermoen with Scandinavian Airlines and Norwegian operating flights to Longyearbyen with two to three flights to Svalbard a day. Airport bus (100 NOK one way) or taxi (150-200 NOK) is available from the airport and stops conveniently at accommodation in Longyearbyen and Nybyen.
Financial support for presenting students is available to subsidise travel and accommodation.

COVID-19 and entry restrictions
Currently there are no restrictions or requirements for entry in to Norway or travel to Svalbard due to COVID-19, but please check your own national restrictions for your return home. Requirements for vaccine certificates, quarantine, or the completion of passenger locator forms are no longer in effect for entry in to Norway and Svalbard. Regulations governing entry into the European Union, the Schengen Visa Area, and Norway are as before the start of the pandemic. For the latest entry requirements and COVID-19 updates please check the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration, the Norwegian Government, and the Governor of Svalbard.
Accommodation
Participants are expected to book their own accommodation. Please book as soon as possible following registration. Accommodation is in short supply in Longyearbyen with a high tourist season expected for summer 2022. Some accommodation in Longyearbyen has been reserved on behalf of the Arctic Workshop. A discount code for Svalbard Hotel will be provided in a confirmation email following registration. See the following website links below for a range of accommodation in Longyearbyen.
For those wanting to experience further nature that Svalbard offers, stays at the campsite near to the airport are available and we can run vehicles to pick people up in the morning and drop them off in the evening.

Hotels: The Arctic Workshop has a group booking at Svalbard Hotel – Polfareren and Svalbard Hotel – The Vault – with limited availability up to 30 days prior to the conference. If you would like to book a room here, please contact Svalbard Hotel by email at salg@svalbardadventures.com and use the discount code given in your registration confirmation email. Discounted shared apartments (up to five or six people) are also available through Svalbard Hotel. Please organise groups yourselves to take advantage of this.
Other hotels in Longyearbyen are also available, including the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel, Mary-Ann’s Polarrigg, Basecamp Hotel, Funken Lodge, Gjestehuset 102, Haugen Pensjonat Svalbard, and Coal Miners’ Cabins. And of course, there is the campsite too. It is peak season, so book travel and accommodation early.
Limited single or shared budget student accommodation is also be available in the new Elvesletta student housing complex. This can be booked by student attendees for a minimum of one week (sorry, no individual days) through organization@aw2022.org during or after registration. If you are a student registrant, we will let you know about the accommodation available at Elvesletta, the costs, and how to book if you want it.

Field clothing
The AW2022 includes field excursions to local field sites within the Longyearbyen and Adventdalen area. Whilst the weather is usually relatively stable and mild in June it can vary markedly. Have a look at a guide to summer clothing on Svalbard.
